Trevoh Chalobah Joins Como in £30m Deal as Chelsea Cash In on Academy Graduate Ahead of Champions League Debut

After years of uncertainty at Stamford Bridge, Trevoh Chalobah has finally been given the clean break he deserves. The England international centre-back has completed a £30 million switch to Como, becoming technically the Italian club's record signing as Cesc Fabregas's side prepare for their maiden Champions League campaign in 2026–27.

Chelsea's Shifting Priorities

The sale represents pure profit for Chelsea, given Chalobah is an academy product. The Blues had already brought in Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and Levi Colwill is back fit after his ACL injury, leaving Chalobah surplus to requirements in a squad that had, astonishingly, ten centre-backs on the books at one point this summer.

Chalobah's exit has not been straightforward — recalled from a loan at Crystal Palace in January 2025 when Chelsea's defensive injury crisis deepened, then told just months later that he would be moving on again as new signings came in. He responded to each setback with professionalism, finishing last season as Chelsea's most-used centre-back despite the uncertain circumstances around his future.

A New Life Under Fabregas

For Como, Chalobah brings exactly what a club making their debut on European football's biggest stage needs: Premier League experience, physical presence, and emotional maturity. The 27-year-old will likely partner with Nico Paz in a Como backline that suddenly looks far more equipped for the rigours of Serie A and the Champions League.

For Chalobah himself, this is a long-overdue fresh start in one of Italy's most beautiful regions, playing Champions League football under a manager — Fabregas — who was himself a Chelsea icon. The fit feels natural, and the story deserves a happy ending.
