Sevilla have pulled off one of the summer's most eye-catching signings, bringing Scottish striker Robbie Ure to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in a deal worth an initial £5.5m from Swedish league leaders IK Sirius.
The 22-year-old, who completed his medical on Monday and put pen to paper on a five-year contract, will wear the number nine shirt at the La Liga club. Sevilla will pay €6.5m (£5.5m) up front for the Glasgow-born forward, with a further €2.5m (£2.1m) in potential add-ons — meaning the total package could reach around £7.6m.
A Breakout Season That Caught Europe's Eye
If you hadn't heard of Robbie Ure a year ago, you certainly will have noticed him now. Since joining Sirius in March 2025, Ure has been nothing short of unstoppable in the Allsvenskan, racking up 31 goals and seven assists in 50 appearances. This current Swedish season alone has seen him score an astonishing 15 league goals — helping propel his club to the top of the table, where they sit with a commanding 12-point lead going into the second half of the campaign.
That form hasn't just turned heads in Scandinavia. Clubs across Europe had been tracking him, and Sevilla ultimately won the race — offering the young striker the chance to lead the line at one of Spain's most storied clubs. For Ure, it's a move that represents a remarkable turnaround from a career that appeared to be stalling just a couple of years ago.
From Rangers Academy to La Liga
Ure came through the youth ranks at Rangers, turning professional with the Ibrox club and making his debut in August 2022 against Queen of the South in the League Cup — scoring on his first start. Despite showing flashes of promise, he wasn't offered a contract extension and departed in 2023, joining Belgian club Anderlecht's reserve side RSCA Futures in the second-tier Challenger Pro League.
It was in Sweden where everything clicked. Arriving at Sirius midway through the 2025 season, Ure quickly found the net with regularity, and this campaign has been his best yet. Tall, mobile, and with an eye for goal that belies his age, the 22-year-old has become the complete striker Sirius always hoped he would be.
A Historic Sevilla Signing
Sevilla were keen to highlight the historical significance of the deal, noting that Ure becomes just the third Scottish-born player to represent the club in official competition. He follows in the footsteps of Ted McMinn, who played at Sevilla in the 1980s, and Duncan McVean Thomson, who featured during the 1915-16 season. The club also acknowledged the connection to former Sevilla manager Jock Wallace, who took charge of the Andalusian side during the 1986-87 season, as well as the club's first president, Edward Farquharson Johnston.
For Ure, the chance to write his name into that history will not be lost on him.
International Future Still Undecided
One subplot surrounding the transfer is Ure's international situation. The striker is a Scotland under-19 international — he earned five caps and scored twice at that level — but remains uncapped at senior level. He was not part of Scotland's 2026 World Cup squad, and while he is also eligible to represent Ukraine through his grandfather, Ure has publicly stated his preference is to wait for a senior Scotland call-up.
Whether that opportunity comes now that he'll be playing La Liga football will be one of the more intriguing storylines to follow over the coming months. For now, Sevilla fans will be focused on what their latest recruit can do in the Spanish top flight — and if his Swedish form is anything to go by, the best of Robbie Ure may only just be getting started.
