A Nightmare Start for United
The warning signs were there from the first whistle. United's midfield was overrun, their defensive shape was loose, and there was a familiar nervousness about everything they tried to do going forward. Hull pressed with intensity and purpose, and United simply could not cope.

Their supporters who made the trip to Old Trafford will have gone home absolutely beaming. A 2-0 win at the home of one of English football's biggest clubs, on the opening day of their first Premier League campaign in years, is the stuff dreams are made of.
A Crisis Before the Season Has Even Begun
The reaction to this result will be fierce. United's hierarchy will be under enormous pressure to explain how a side that spent heavily in the summer could produce such a flat and toothless display against newly promoted opposition. Questions will be asked about the squad, the tactics and the direction of the club.
There are seventeen matches remaining before the winter break, and plenty of time for United to turn things around. But if the performance against Hull City is any indication of where this squad is right now, then the 2026/27 campaign is going to be a very long season at Old Trafford.
