FIFA has pulled back the curtain on what promises to be one of the most spectacular half-time shows in sporting history. Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira and South Korean boy band BTS will co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final half-time show on Sunday, July 19, at the New York New Jersey Stadium — more widely known as MetLife Stadium.
A Historic First for the World Cup Final
For the first time in the history of the tournament, the World Cup final will feature a full-scale, televised half-time entertainment show. FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that the 11-minute broadcast spectacle will unite football and music under the banner of social impact, with the show curated by none other than Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Nigerian superstar Burna Boy will also perform during the interval, along with Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the renowned PS 22 Chorus, and Coldplay themselves. Characters from beloved franchises Sesame Street and The Muppets are also set to make an appearance, giving the show a family-friendly dimension unlike anything seen at a World Cup final before.
More Than Just Music — A Message
The half-time show will serve a broader purpose beyond pure entertainment. FIFA has partnered with its Global Citizen Education Fund, which is targeting £74.7 million ($100 million) in fundraising to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children worldwide. More than £37.3 million ($50 million) has already been raised, including one US dollar from every World Cup match ticket sold being donated to support social projects around the world.
Infantino said: "We are proud to have Justin Bieber joining Madonna, Shakira and BTS to co-headline the FIFA World Cup 2026 final half-time show in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and our mission to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children around the world."
He added: "As the world unites for the most significant football match in history on Sunday, July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium, this groundbreaking spectacle, curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay, will celebrate football, music and our shared values, ensuring a legacy that transcends the final whistle."
The Artists Set to Light Up MetLife
The lineup represents a genuine global spread of music talent. Madonna and Shakira bring decades of stadium-filling experience and two of the most iconic World Cup moments in music history — Shakira's Waka Waka remains the best-selling World Cup song ever. Justin Bieber, despite stepping back from the spotlight in recent years, remains one of the world's most recognisable pop figures. BTS, the Korean group that has broken record after record globally, will give the show an enormous reach across Asia and beyond. Burna Boy's inclusion gives Africa a powerful voice on the world's biggest stage, while Gustavo Dudamel adds a classical and Latin American dimension that sets this apart from any standard pop spectacle.
Football Meets Culture at the World Cup Final
This is a significant shift in how FIFA is positioning the World Cup final. By framing the entertainment around education and global citizenship, and bringing in an astonishing range of artists, FIFA is clearly signalling that the 2026 final should be remembered not just for what happens on the pitch, but for the cultural statement it makes to a global audience of billions.
