Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Emersonn from Toulouse FC for an initial fee of £23.9 million, rising to £26.6 million with add-ons. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Portman Road running until 2031, making him not only the club's record signing but also the first Brazilian player in Ipswich Town's history.

The deal, announced on July 8, 2026, represents a major statement of intent from the Suffolk club as they continue to build for life in the Premier League. Emersonn — full name Emersonn Correia da Silva — emerged as one of the most exciting young strikers in European football during the 2025-26 season, scoring six goals in 28 appearances for Toulouse after joining on a permanent deal from Brazilian club Göztepe in September 2025.

Who Is Emersonn?

Born on July 16, 2004, in Brazil, Emersonn is a powerful, direct centre-forward who stands 1.86 metres tall. He began his career with Athletico Paranaense before moving to Göztepe in Turkey in January 2025. His performances caught the eye of Toulouse, who signed him that September. He immediately made an impact in Ligue 1, combining physical presence with intelligent movement and an eye for goal that set him apart from most strikers his age in the French top flight.

"He is a player with enormous potential," Ipswich head coach said at the announcement. "His profile fits exactly what we are looking for — a striker with pace, power and a real desire to improve. We are delighted to welcome the first Brazilian in Ipswich's history."

Why Ipswich?

The move continues Ipswich's policy of identifying young, high-ceiling talent before the market drives prices beyond reach. The club have been watching Emersonn for several months, impressed by his physicality, his pressing ability and his movement in behind defensive lines — attributes that suit the high-energy, counter-pressing style favoured by the current coaching staff.

For Emersonn, Ipswich represents a step up to one of the most competitive leagues in world football. The Premier League's physicality will be a test, but the club believes his attributes are perfectly suited to English football — and at 21 with no major international tournament experience, the ceiling on his development is extremely high.

A Historic Signing for the Club

Beyond the fee, the cultural significance of this move is considerable for Ipswich Town. Brazil has produced some of the most technically gifted players in football history, and bringing the first Brazilian player to Portman Road is a moment the club's supporters will remember. Emersonn arrives as the most expensive player the club have ever signed, with expectations to match.

If he fulfils even a fraction of the potential scouts identified at Toulouse, Ipswich will have pulled off one of the transfers of the summer.
