Done Deal: Lyon secure Morton from Liverpool for £15m

LYON LAND MORTON! FRENCH CLUB COMPLETE £15M DEAL FOR LIVERPOOL MIDFIELDER

Tyler Morton has left Liverpool as part of the club’s continued summer reshuffle under new manager Arne Slot.

The 22-year-old midfielder, a Wirral native, joined Liverpool’s youth academy at just seven years old and made his senior debut in 2021. However, first-team opportunities proved limited, with Morton making just 14 appearances across all competitions. He spent time developing his game in the Championship, enjoying loan spells with both Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

His departure comes after a successful summer with England’s Under-21s, where he played a role in their European Championship triumph.

Morton joins a growing list of academy graduates moving on from Anfield this summer, a strategy that reflects Liverpool’s need to remain compliant with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club has already sanctioned the sale of defender Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are actively reinforcing their squad, having already spent over £250 million following their 2024/25 Premier League title win. With Lyon also making headlines after having their Ligue 1 status reinstated following a successful financial appeal, Morton’s move marks a fresh chapter for both the player and his new club.
