MAN UTD LAND SESKO! RED DEVILS AGREE £73.7M DEAL FOR RB LEIPZIG STRIKER
Manchester United have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško for a package worth £73.7 million (€85m), including £66.3 million (€76.5m) in guaranteed fees and the rest in performance-based add-ons.
The 22-year-old will undergo a medical on Friday before completing the switch to Old Trafford. Šeško had drawn interest from several clubs, including Newcastle United, but has chosen to join the Red Devils after impressing with 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig — making him the top under-23 scorer across Europe’s top five leagues since his arrival in Germany.
Šeško’s blend of pace, strength, aerial dominance, and clinical finishing has seen him frequently compared to Erling Haaland. He clocked a top speed of 35.7 km/h last season and had the highest aerial duel success rate among Bundesliga strikers with over 60 aerial involvements.
His signing comes as part of a major summer overhaul by United, who have already brought in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined £130m. These deals have been structured to ease Financial Fair Play pressure, especially with Marcus Rashford’s full £325,000-per-week wages now covered by his loan move to Barcelona.
United are also seeking to raise further funds, including £50m from a potential sale of Alejandro Garnacho, who has drawn serious interest from Chelsea. Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund, who has managed just 14 Premier League goals in two seasons, is now available for transfer at £40m.
Newcastle, who were also in pursuit of Šeško, suffer another transfer setback having already missed out on Hugo Ekitike — who joined Liverpool — and may now see their star striker Alexander Isak follow him to Anfield.
Šeško’s arrival offers United a new attacking focal point with elite-level physical attributes and a high ceiling for development — a move that signals their intent to revamp the squad with pace, youth, and clinical firepower.
