Everton have bolstered their midfield ahead of the new Premier League season by signing Denmark international Christian Nørgaard from Arsenal for a fee of £7 million. The 32-year-old joins David Moyes' side after a single season at the Emirates, where he made 20 appearances — seven of them in the Premier League — following his move from Brentford the previous summer.

For Arsenal, the deal represents a relatively clean exit for a player who never fully nailed down a starting spot in Mikel Arteta's star-studded midfield. For Everton, it adds experience, physicality, and international quality to a department that Moyes is working hard to strengthen before the season kicks off.

From Brentford Talisman to Arsenal Squad Player

Nørgaard had been one of the most consistent and underrated midfielders in the Premier League during his years at Brentford, where he was the heartbeat of Thomas Frank's side for several seasons. His defensive nous, reading of the game, and ability to win the ball in tight spaces earned him widespread admiration — and eventually attracted Arsenal's attention, with the Gunners paying £10 million plus add-ons to bring him to north London.

However, competition for places in Arsenal's midfield was ferocious even by elite standards. With Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and the newly arrived Bruno Guimarães all competing for central roles, minutes were always going to be hard to come by for Nørgaard. A move away made sense for all parties.

Moyes Makes His Mark at Goodison

The deal is one of a number of calculated acquisitions by Moyes, who has been building quietly and thoughtfully since his appointment at Everton. Nørgaard brings leadership, experience and tactical intelligence — exactly the qualities Moyes has always valued in his midfield anchors over the years.

At 32, the Danish international is entering the final phase of his career, but there is no suggestion of a decline in his output. He remains one of the most reliable defensive midfielders available in the Premier League market, and Everton will expect to get significant value from the deal.

'Everton Is the Right Place for Me Right Now'

"I am delighted to be here," Nørgaard said on signing. "Everton is a big club with passionate supporters and real ambition. I believe this is the right place for me at this stage of my career, and I am going to give everything I have for this team." Everton supporters, who know all too well the value of a composed and dependable presence in midfield, will be pleased to see him in a blue shirt.
