Brighton & Hove Albion have rejected a £60m bid from Liverpool for winger Yankuba Minteh, Sky Sports understands. The Seagulls made their position clear almost immediately — that figure does not come close to what they consider fair value for one of the most exciting young attackers in the Premier League. With the transfer window closing in less than a fortnight, the rejection puts Liverpool's pursuit in serious doubt unless they are willing to return with a substantially improved offer.
Minteh, 22, joined Brighton from Newcastle United in July 2024 for a reported £30m. He has doubled that figure in terms of perceived value in barely two seasons, impressing enough to attract serious interest from one of European football's most powerful clubs. That Brighton are turning down double their initial outlay without hesitation tells you everything about how highly they rate him.
Two Seasons, One Clear Conclusion
Since arriving on the south coast, Minteh has been one of Brighton's most consistent performers. In his debut season in 2024–25, he made 32 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals and providing a string of assists. This season — still only August — his three league goals already include a debut double in a 3–0 win over Chelsea that sent a clear reminder across the Premier League of what he is capable of. His directness, his pace in behind, and his ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations make him the kind of winger that is almost impossible to replace on a budget.
Before joining Brighton, Minteh spent the 2023–24 season on loan at Feyenoord, where he was nothing short of outstanding — scoring 10 goals and registering 11 assists in 37 appearances. He was arguably the standout attacking player in the Eredivisie that season, and his role in Feyenoord's famous 6–0 demolition of Ajax in De Klassieker earned him admirers across the continent. Liverpool are not the only club that noticed.
Liverpool's Winger Search Hits a Wall
Liverpool's interest in Minteh comes against a backdrop of a window in which they have already invested heavily. The £55m signing of Martin Zubimendi added control to their midfield, but the wide areas remain a point of discussion. Brighton's refusal of £60m suggests any deal — if one is to happen at all — would need to be in the region of £75m or above. Whether Liverpool have the appetite and the PSR headroom for that kind of outlay in the final days of the window is a very different question.
For now, Minteh remains a Brighton player. Given how this club operates — building patiently, selling smart, developing the next wave — it would be no surprise if they simply hold their ground. They bought him for £30m. Letting him go for anything less than a record sale would go against everything Fabian Hürzeler's side has built. The ball is firmly in Liverpool's court.
