After years of speculation it is finally official. Bernardo Silva has left Manchester City and joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, signing a long-term contract with the Spanish giants and closing the book on one of the most decorated spells in Premier League history.

The 30-year-old had been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad for multiple summers. With his contract expiring there was no fee to negotiate and Madrid moved swiftly.

Eight Trophy-Laden Years at City

Bernardo arrived at Manchester City from Monaco in 2017. Under Pep Guardiola he grew from a talented wide forward into one of the most complete midfielders in world football. Six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups. Guardiola said: There is no replacing Bernardo. He gave everything for this club.

Madrid Get Their Man for Free

Landing a player of his calibre on a free transfer is extraordinary business. Carlo Ancelotti made him a priority and the deal came together quickly once renewal talks stalled. At 30, with his game built on reading, movement and precision rather than pace, Bernardo looks set to thrive at the Bernabeu for years to come.
