Barcelona have made an approach for Pedro Porro, Tottenham's first-choice right-back and one of the standout performers in Spain's 2026 World Cup triumph. But if they were hoping the Spanish connection might open a door, Spurs have shut it firmly — the 26-year-old signed a new long-term contract in June that runs until 2031, and the club have made clear he is not for sale.
The Catalan club's interest is being driven in part by speculation around Jules Kounde, who has attracted significant attention from Arsenal. Should Barcelona lose their own right-back option, Porro would represent a natural replacement — a World Cup winner, Premier League-proven, and capable at the highest level. But the timing couldn't be worse for them.
A New Chapter at Spurs
Porro's new deal came just weeks after he lifted the World Cup with Spain in North America, where his performances at right wing-back drew widespread acclaim. He featured prominently throughout the tournament, starting as Spain dismantled Argentina in the final. The contract extension was seen as Tottenham's way of capitalising on his peak value and tying him down before any summer window chaos could develop.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi left no room for interpretation when asked about Porro's future. "Pedro is a very important player for us," he stated. "He plays a key role in how we want to play. That hasn't changed." De Zerbi, who relies heavily on wide players to stretch opposition defensive lines, has built much of Tottenham's transitional system around Porro's engine and delivery from deep.
Barcelona's Problem Is Kounde
The real trigger for this reported approach is the Jules Kounde situation. Arsenal have been closely linked with the Frenchman, and if he departs the Camp Nou, Barcelona will need a high-quality replacement quickly. Porro fits their profile — but Tottenham's firm stance and his contract length make any deal practically impossible unless someone submits a truly extraordinary fee.
As it stands, Porro appears set to begin the new Premier League season at Spurs, with no indication from either player or club that anything has shifted. Barcelona will likely need to look elsewhere. For Tottenham, it is another sign that the club is starting to build something durable rather than simply treading water.
