Arsenal's Left-Wing Hunt: Kvaratskhelia Closes the Door as Gordon Becomes the Main Target
Arsenal's summer recruitment drive is taking shape, and nowhere is the puzzle more pressing than on the left wing. Mikel Arteta has made the position a priority — the Gunners want a player who can add pace, directness and end product to an attack that has occasionally lacked that cutting edge in the biggest games. Two names have dominated the conversation: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Anthony Gordon. One has just been ruled out. The other is very much in play.
The Kvaratskhelia situation appeared full of possibility at first. The PSG winger is one of the most exciting forwards in Europe — a player whose combination of skill, physicality and goal threat makes him the kind of profile Arsenal would love to add. Reports of Arsenal's interest were well-sourced and widely believed. But his father, Badri Kvaratskhelia, has put the speculation to rest in terms most clubs would struggle to read any other way. His son is committed to PSG, happy in Paris, and is going nowhere this summer.
Gordon Now the Focus
With Kvaratskhelia off the table, Gordon becomes Arsenal's primary target. The Newcastle United forward, 24, has the profile Arteta needs — sharp movement, excellent delivery, and the kind of consistent pressing that fits the Gunners' high-intensity system. He also has something that might matter just as much right now: he wants to leave. Gordon is understood to have made it clear that he wants a move to a Champions League club before the World Cup, and Arsenal represent exactly that.
The fee will be significant — Newcastle value him at around £80m — but Arsenal have the financial capacity to make it work, particularly if they move certain players on. The Gunners have been linked with signings across several positions this summer, and while midfielder recruitment also features prominently in their planning, landing Gordon would represent a genuine statement of intent.
Nico Williams Also on the Radar
Arsenal's left-wing search extends beyond Gordon. Nico Williams, the Athletic Club and Spain international who lit up Euro 2024, has also been linked with a move to north London. The young Spaniard would bring a different flavour — more natural winger, incredibly direct — to what Gordon offers. Whether Arsenal move for one or both will depend on what deals are possible in a window that promises to be busy at the Emirates.
