Arsenal vs Man City: Premier League Title Race Goes Down to the Wire

Two points separate Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, with one game left for each. Arsenal host relegated Burnley. City travel to Bournemouth. Both matches are winnable, neither is a formality, and the most dramatic way for this season to end — Arsenal winning their second league title, or City pinching it at the last — is very much still on the table. This is exactly the kind of end-of-season scenario that makes the Premier League what it is.

Where the title stands and who blinks first

Arsenal have 79 points. City have 77. Arsenal play at home against a Burnley side already relegated and with nothing left to fight for. City go to Bournemouth, who are still chasing a top-six finish and have their own motivation. In theory, Arsenal's fixture looks easier. But Arsenal have dropped points in games that looked easier before — West Ham earlier this month required a late winner to stay on top. Mikel Arteta has been publicly calm about it, saying the club is "ready to take the final step." Whether that calm extends to the dressing room on the day is a different question.

City's tiebreaker advantage and why it matters

Here's the detail that nobody outside Manchester wants to think about: if Arsenal and City finish level on points, goal difference, and goals scored, the title goes to City on the head-to-head record. City won and drew against Arsenal this season, meaning they hold the advantage on that criterion. Arsenal need to win outright to be champions. A draw sends the title to City even if both sides finish level. That context changes how Arteta will approach the Burnley match — there's no sitting back, no managing the game. They need the three points.

The bigger picture — and how this finishes

It's worth stepping back and recognising what an achievement it would be for either club. Arsenal have been chasing this for years and keep falling agonisingly short. A title would be vindication for Arteta's entire project. For City, doing it while Arsenal also have a Champions League final on May 30 would be remarkable — they'd be watching Gunners players celebrate a potential double while City's players sit at home in the off-season. That kind of detail matters in football. Arsenal to win the title. 2-0 against Burnley, and City draw at Bournemouth. That's the gut feeling — though gut feelings have been wrong before.

Title race standings (May 15, 2026): Arsenal 1st — 79 pts | Manchester City 2nd — 77 pts | Both have 1 game remaining | Tiebreaker: Man City win on H2H if level on all other criteria | Arsenal host Burnley | City travel to Bournemouth.
