West Ham's captain has become one of the most talked-about names going into the summer window. Jarrod Bowen, 29, has three Premier League clubs queuing up for his signature, and while the player himself has given little away publicly, the situation is gathering pace. Liverpool lead the race as of this week, though Newcastle and Everton are also serious, and a £60 million price tag from West Ham has not deterred anyone.
Bowen has had a solid if not spectacular season by his standards — eight Premier League goals and a handful of assists in 27 league appearances — but the context matters. West Ham have been inconsistent, their squad lacks depth, and Bowen has been doing a lot of heavy lifting as both captain and creator. He became the club's all-time record holder for goal involvements back in January, surpassing Michail Antonio's previous benchmark. That kind of consistency over five-plus seasons earns you admirers.
Why Liverpool are in front
The Salah situation is the obvious connection. Liverpool need a right-sided forward, they need one who can produce goals and assists in consistent volumes, and they need someone the dressing room already respects. Bowen ticks multiple boxes. He is English, he is experienced in Premier League pressure moments, and he has proven he can operate as both a wide forward and a centre-forward when needed.
The hesitation on Bowen's side — and TEAMtalk reports suggest he is in no rush to force anything — comes down to life rather than football. He married Dani Dyer last May, they have three children including twins, and by all accounts he is genuinely settled in London. Leaving the capital is not something he is actively seeking. That reality makes Liverpool's task harder, even if the footballing proposition is strong.
What Newcastle and Everton are offering
Newcastle have been told the player already has an idea of where he stands on their proposal, and it is not encouraging. Everton represent a more lateral move than an upgrade, which may not tempt a player who can attract Champions League clubs. There are also reports of Tottenham's name coming up, which makes geographic sense for Bowen given the London connection.
West Ham's contract situation gives them leverage. Bowen signed an extension in October 2023 keeping him at the London Stadium until June 2030 — the club can afford to hold firm on their £60m valuation. No relegation clause is believed to exist in that deal. If West Ham go down, they lose him anyway at some point, which perhaps explains why they are not rushing to cash in early.
Transfer context: Jarrod Bowen, age 29, West Ham United. Contract until June 2030. This season: 8 PL goals, 29 appearances. Reported valuation: £60m. Clubs linked: Liverpool, Newcastle United, Everton, Tottenham.
