Liverpool Rejects Barcelona's Bid for Luis Diaz, Declares Star Forward Not for Sale

Liverpool has firmly stated that star forward Luis Diaz is not for sale, despite persistent interest from Barcelona and ongoing discussions surrounding his future. The Colombian international, a key player in Liverpool's recent Premier League title win, remains under contract until 2027, with the club rejecting any approaches for his transfer.

Liverpool's Stance on Luis Diaz

Liverpool has unequivocally rejected Barcelona's attempts to engage in discussions regarding Luis Diaz. Club sources confirm that the 28-year-old Colombian international, who was instrumental in Liverpool's recent Premier League triumph, is not available for transfer. Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 and is contracted until 2027. His impressive performance last season, with 13 goals and seven assists, has solidified his value to the team.

Diaz's Contract Situation and Player Comments

Despite Liverpool's firm stance, speculation about Diaz's future has been fueled by his current contract, which has two years remaining, and an apparent impasse in new deal negotiations. Diaz himself has acknowledged talks with other clubs, stating, "I'm very happy at Liverpool, I've always said so. They've welcomed me very well from day one. We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs." He added, "We're trying to arrange what's best for us. I'm waiting to see what happens. If they (Liverpool) give us a good renewal or I stay there for two years, I’ll be happy. Now it’s up to them.”

Transfer Market Activity at Anfield

Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group's chief executive of football Michael Edwards are actively reshaping the squad under Arne Slot. Recent transfer activities include:

  • The £29.5 million signing of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
  • Ongoing talks for a potential club-record £109 million fee to sign German midfielder Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen.
  • Discussions to acquire Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez for an estimated £45-50 million.
  • Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will join the squad after a loan spell at Valencia.

These moves indicate Liverpool's commitment to strengthening the team while retaining key players like Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, who have recently signed new contracts. Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has moved to Real Madrid, and Caoimhin Kelleher has been sold to Brentford.
