Echeverri could depart Man City as Roma negotiations progress

TRANSFER BREAKTHROUGH: ROMA CLOSE IN ON MAN CITY'S ECHEVERRI AS WONDERKID EYES EXIT

Claudio Echeverri’s future at Manchester City appears increasingly uncertain, with AS Roma stepping up their pursuit of the Argentine wonderkid. The Serie A side are in advanced discussions with City over a season-long loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent depending on performance.

Echeverri, who joined City from River Plate earlier this year in a much-anticipated deal, has struggled to find a clear pathway to first-team football at the Etihad. Despite showcasing flashes of brilliance during youth and reserve outings, the 19-year-old has yet to make a senior appearance for Pep Guardiola's side.

Now, with competition for attacking midfield spots fiercer than ever — thanks to the likes of Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb — City appear willing to sanction a temporary move that would allow Echeverri to develop in a competitive European environment.

Roma, keen to add more creativity and youth to their squad under Daniele De Rossi, view Echeverri as a high-upside investment. The Giallorossi believe that the Argentine playmaker could thrive in Serie A, especially in a system that grants him freedom to operate between the lines.

While a permanent transfer is not off the table long-term, the current focus is on structuring a loan deal with an option to buy, potentially in the region of €25–30 million. City are reportedly open to the idea — but only if a buy-back clause is included, ensuring they retain some control over Echeverri’s future.

For the player himself, the move represents a key opportunity to gain senior experience and prove his readiness for top-level football in Europe. With Argentina U20 accolades already under his belt, a breakout season in Italy could reignite his path to the Premier League.

If talks continue to progress smoothly, a deal could be finalized before the end of the transfer window, with Echeverri expected to join Roma's pre-season training camp shortly after.
