ARSENAL SEAL €20M MOSQUERA DEAL! GUNNERS CONFIRM VALENCIA DEFENDER'S ARRIVAL ON LONG-TERM CONTRACT
Arsenal have officially unveiled Cristhian Mosquera as their latest summer signing, completing the acquisition of the highly rated Spanish centre-back from Valencia in a deal initially worth €15 million (£13m/$18m). The total fee could rise to €20 million (£17m/$23m) with performance-based add-ons included in the agreement.
The 21-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until June 2030, with the club also holding an option to extend the deal by an additional year.
Mosquera’s arrival marks another step in Mikel Arteta’s plan to reinforce the defensive core of the squad ahead of a demanding 2025/26 campaign that includes both domestic and European ambitions. The Gunners had been tracking the Spain youth international for several months, impressed by his composure, positional awareness, and aerial presence despite his relatively young age.
A product of Valencia’s academy, Mosquera made significant strides in La Liga last season, becoming a regular in the first team and catching the eye with mature performances against some of the league’s top attackers. His ability to play both as a right-sided centre-back and, when needed, as a defensive midfielder adds valuable tactical flexibility to Arteta’s setup.
Speaking following the announcement, Mosquera shared his excitement about the move:
“Joining Arsenal is a dream come true. This is a club with a clear vision, great ambition, and a strong culture of developing young talent. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to the team.”
At Arsenal, Mosquera will compete with the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, and Jakub Kiwior for a place in the starting XI, with the club aiming to maintain depth and rotation options for a packed fixture schedule.
The signing is also seen as a long-term investment, as the Gunners continue to build a youthful and dynamic core capable of sustaining success over multiple seasons. With pre-season training underway and the squad preparing for a U.S. tour, Mosquera is expected to join his new teammates immediately and feature in upcoming friendlies.
