Thursday's back pages have Liverpool shopping in the Premier League again, and half of Europe keeping one eye on what happens next at Manchester City.

Liverpool make a move for Schade

Liverpool have emerged as genuine contenders for Kevin Schade, the 24-year-old Brentford and Germany forward, according to Teamtalk. Manchester United have been linked with him too. Which usually means the price only goes one way, whoever ends up making the call.

There is a second one. GiveMeSport report that Yankuba Minteh, 22, is still keen on the move after a summer transfer failed to materialise. The Brighton and Gambia winger has not hidden where he would rather be playing.

Two City players Europe is watching

The Sun say Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been circling Erling Haaland, 26, and are ready to move if an opportunity arises. Ready, not moving. It is a long way short of a bid, although the phrasing does tell you where the Spanish clubs think this might be heading.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, would go for Phil Foden if he became available, per Teamtalk. The 26-year-old England midfielder has spent his whole career at City. Neither story is an approach yet; both are the sort of thing agents make sure gets printed.

Defenders on the list

Giorgio Scalvini has said he would like to play abroad at some point in his career, and Football Italia report that Newcastle and Chelsea have already registered an interest. The Atalanta and Italy defender is 22. Young enough for everyone involved to take their time, and for the asking price to climb while they do.

Fiorentina's Dodo looks closer to the door. La Gazzetta dello Sport have the 27-year-old Brazilian full-back leaving in January, with Nottingham Forest, Roma and Napoli all named among the clubs keen.

What to believe

Most of this will not happen. That is the nature of a gossip column in an international week when there are no matches to write about and the back pages still have to be filled. The Schade and Minteh stories at least have a shape to them, since both fit a position Liverpool have been linked with all year. The Haaland and Foden items are the ones to park until January, when somebody will need to actually make a call.

Gossip round-up: Thursday 1 October 2026. Kevin Schade, 24, Brentford and Germany, linked with Liverpool and Manchester United (Teamtalk). Erling Haaland, 26, Manchester City and Norway, watched by Real Madrid and Barcelona (Sun). Phil Foden, 26, Manchester City and England, a Bayern Munich target if available (Teamtalk). Giorgio Scalvini, 22, Atalanta and Italy, wanted by Newcastle and Chelsea (Football Italia). Dodo, 27, Fiorentina, a January target for Nottingham Forest, Roma and Napoli (La Gazzetta dello Sport). Yankuba Minteh, 22, Brighton and Gambia, still keen on Liverpool (GiveMeSport).
