Parma had 22 shots at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Monday night. Torino had nine, and three of them found the net. That gap between effort and reward decided a 3-0 Serie A win for the visitors, who scored after four minutes, were two up before the half hour and then spent most of the evening absorbing everything Parma threw at them.
Simeone strikes early
Giovanni Simeone put Torino in front after four minutes, set up by Raoul Belghali. It was the kind of start that changes how a match gets played. Parma ended up with a little more of the ball, 51.5 per cent to Torino's 48.5, but they spent the whole night chasing a lead they gave away almost immediately.
Che Adams made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. The Scotland forward gave Torino a two-goal cushion that held through half-time, and from then on the visitors could afford to sit deep and wait for the break.
Parma pile up the shots
The home side did nearly everything except score. They finished with seven shots on target and 51 touches inside the Torino box, against Torino's 18. Matija Frigan came close in the 78th minute with a left-footed shot from the right side of the area, played in by Mariano Troilo, but Lucas Perri saved it low into the bottom right corner. Perri made seven saves in total, and a big part of the scoreline belongs to him.
Parma also had the better of the set pieces, winning six corners to Torino's two. Torino committed 16 fouls to Parma's six, which suggests a team that was happy to slow the game down whenever the pressure built.
Simeone seals it
The third goal arrived in the 69th minute and it was a mirror of the first: Simeone scoring, Belghali providing. Two goals for the striker and two assists for Belghali is a good night's work for a pair of players, and it left Torino with a result that looked far more comfortable on the scoreboard than it did on the shot chart.
For Parma, the numbers are a puzzle rather than a verdict. They created chance after chance and still lost by three, because Torino scored with every shot on target they had. That kind of efficiency does not usually last a season, but for one Monday night it was enough.
