Marc Cucurella has completed a £51.8 million transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid, ending a three-year stint at Stamford Bridge that saw him transform his reputation from a player under intense early scrutiny to one of the most reliable left-backs in Europe.
The Spaniard arrives at the Bernabeu as part of a significant defensive overhaul at Madrid, who also landed Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a free transfer this summer. Cucurella, who turns 28 in July, is approaching the peak years of his career and gives Madrid a technically excellent, physically robust option down the left flank.
His journey to the top
Cucurella's path to the Bernabeu has been far from linear. He joined Chelsea in 2022 for £62m from Brighton amid enormous pressure and faced relentless scrutiny — particularly after a difficult first season under Thomas Tuchel.
