Everton have completed the signing of Tyrique George from Chelsea for a fee of £24m, ending the 20-year-old winger's time at Stamford Bridge and giving Sean Dyche's side one of the most exciting young attacking talents in English football. George, who came through Chelsea's academy and made 19 Premier League appearances last season, has agreed a four-year contract at Goodison Park and will be expected to play a significant role as Everton seek to push up the table in 2026-27.

What Chelsea Are Losing

George is not a player Chelsea wanted to sell. The club's new ownership has spoken repeatedly about its commitment to developing homegrown talent, and the winger was supposed to be exhibit A of that policy working. Quick, direct, technically sound in tight spaces, and capable of producing moments of real quality — he was one of the few bright spots in a Chelsea season that again fell short of expectations in the league. The problem was simple: Enzo Maresca's squad was too large, George could not break into the regular starting eleven, and with his contract entering its final eighteen months, the club had a choice between selling now or watching him run down his deal.

Why Everton Moved Fast

Everton have been looking for a wide forward capable of creating chances from nothing for the best part of two seasons. Their attacks last campaign were too slow, too predictable, and too dependent on set pieces. George brings something different — the ability to run at defenders in one-on-one situations and make something happen from a standing start. At £24m for a player with his age profile and talent, Everton's board moved quickly when Chelsea indicated the player was available, knowing that several Championship clubs on the rise and at least one other Premier League side were circling.

The Season Ahead

The central question is whether George can handle the expectation that comes with being a big signing at Everton. He has talent in abundance, but his Premier League record so far is more promising than decisive — three goals and four assists from those 19 appearances last season. Dyche will not demand that he become the focal point of everything Everton do, but he will need to be a consistent contributor from the start. If he is, this transfer could look like outstanding value within twelve months. If he needs a settling-in period, the pressure at Goodison will make itself felt quickly.
