Liverpool are pushing to make Yan Diomandé their next major midfield signing, with the club understood to be in serious discussions over a deal to bring the RB Leipzig midfielder to Anfield.

Diomandé, the Ivorian international who has been one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga over the past season, has drawn interest from several top clubs across Europe. But it is Liverpool who have moved with the most urgency, keen to strengthen the engine room ahead of what they hope will be another title challenge next season.

Who Is Yan Diomandé?

For those less familiar with the Bundesliga, Diomandé is a central midfielder with the kind of profile that suits modern high-press football. Strong in the tackle, comfortable under pressure and capable of driving forward with the ball at his feet, he is the sort of player who does a lot of the work that does not always show up on the highlights reel — but whose absence is immediately felt.

He came through the ranks at RB Leipzig, a club with an established reputation for developing high-quality midfield talent. Leipzig have consistently produced — and sold — players who go on to thrive at the very top of European football, and Diomandé looks set to follow that path.

Liverpool's Midfield Vision

The Arne Slot era at Liverpool has been about building on the foundations laid over the previous years while stamping his own identity on the team. The midfield, in particular, has been an area of focus — Slot wants players who can press relentlessly, recover quickly and still have the technical quality to play through lines when the chance arises.

Diomandé fits those criteria. A player in his mid-twenties with Bundesliga experience at a top six club is exactly the profile Liverpool tend to target — someone proven enough to contribute immediately, but with plenty of peak years ahead of them.

The Competition for His Signature

Liverpool will not have it all their own way. Reports from Germany suggest other major European clubs have also enquired, which means any deal will need to move quickly before the market hots up post-World Cup.

RB Leipzig, for their part, are unlikely to sell cheap. They know what they have in Diomandé, and with the club's business model based on smart sales at premium values, they will expect a significant fee. Whether Liverpool are willing to meet that valuation will be the crux of any negotiations.

Watch this space — the Diomandé saga is only just getting started.
