Celtic principal shareholder Dermot Desmond is due to hold talks with Martin O'Neill and Robbie Keane this week as the club considers its next permanent manager.
O'Neill remains a live option after returning to guide Celtic through two spells last season and finishing the campaign with a dramatic league and Scottish Cup double.
O'Neill decision comes first
Sky Sports reports that Celtic's hierarchy are open to O'Neill continuing if he wants the job and the terms are acceptable. Even if the 74-year-old chooses not to stay as manager, the club would like him to retain a role offering guidance and support.
If O'Neill removes himself from consideration, Celtic are expected to move ahead with a wider recruitment process. The club has already sounded out several possible candidates.
Robbie Keane also set for talks
Keane is expected to speak more formally with Celtic this week. The former Hoops striker is available after leaving Ferencvaros, where he won the Hungarian cup last season.
Craig Bellamy and Roberto Martinez have also been linked with the role. Bellamy has reiterated his commitment to Wales, while Martinez is preparing Portugal for the World Cup.
No appointment has been made. Celtic's immediate task is to establish whether O'Neill wants to continue before deciding how far to take discussions with the other candidates.
