PSG vs Bayern Munich: Can the Germans Overturn a 5-4 Deficit Tonight?

What Happened in the First Leg

If you missed the first leg at the Parc des Princes, you missed one of the most extraordinary football matches staged in recent memory. Nine goals, momentum swinging back and forth like a pendulum, and a scoreline — PSG 5-4 Bayern — that became the highest-scoring Champions League semi-final in history. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele both scored twice, while Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Bayern before the tie completely unravelled.

PSG led 3-2 at half-time. Bayern pulled level at 4-4 through Dayot Upamecano before Luis Diaz — in his first season at the club — settled nerves at the Parc des Princes with a late finish. It was the kind of night football rarely delivers. Tonight, the sequel arrives at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern's Task

The maths are stark. Bayern need to win by two clear goals to go through on aggregate, or score three while conceding one. Vincent Kompany's side showed in Paris that they can create chances — Kane, Leroy Sane and Michael Olise were all lively — but their defensive structure collapsed completely in the second half. Against a PSG attack containing Kvaratskhelia, Dembele and Barcola, that is a serious problem.

Kane needs this. The England striker has had a remarkable debut season in Munich, but Champions League glory would cement his status at the Allianz Arena. He scored in the first leg and will fancy his chances against a PSG back four that was repeatedly exposed.

PSG's Approach

Luis Enrique will not ask his side to sit deep and protect a lead. That is not how PSG are built. Kvaratskhelia — who cost the club a club-record fee from Napoli in January 2025 — has been a revelation in the French capital, and the Georgian international will be a constant threat on the counter. PSG have already beaten Barcelona and Manchester City on their way to this stage, and they are not afraid of hostile atmospheres.

The prediction here: Bayern score twice, but PSG find the away goal that matters. Expect another high-scoring, high-drama evening at the Allianz Arena — and PSG to make the final where Arsenal await.
