Callum Hudson-Odoi will play no further part in Nottingham Forest's season after the club confirmed he has undergone surgery on his right quadriceps muscle. The 25-year-old winger was forced off during Forest's Europa League quarter-final victory over FC Porto, visibly distressed as he left the pitch at the City Ground in the 73rd minute. That moment — emotional and raw — now appears to mark the end of a campaign in which Hudson-Odoi had been one of Forest's most consistent attacking threats.

The Injury and What It Means for Forest

The surgery was confirmed as successful, with the club posting a statement confirming Hudson-Odoi had shared an update and that teammates including Chris Wood and Neco Williams had responded with messages of support. The recovery timeline takes him well past the end of the season, meaning he will not be available again until pre-season. That is a significant absence at a critical moment. Forest are deep in a Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa, holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg, and the second leg at Villa Park falls on Thursday, May 7. Without Hudson-Odoi's directness and pace on the right wing, head coach Vitor Pereira will need to reshuffle his attacking options considerably.

A Season to Remember — Until It Wasn't

Hudson-Odoi's campaign at the City Ground had been one of the brighter stories of the Premier League season. After spells at Chelsea and several loan moves that never quite delivered on his enormous potential, the Englishman found something close to his best form in Nottingham. His ability to drive at defenders, get in behind, and create from wide positions made him a key part of Forest's energetic front line. This injury, arriving at the worst possible time, is a brutal reminder of how quickly fortunes can turn in football.

Forest Still Standing — But the Task Gets Harder

Vitor Pereira's side have navigated a remarkable European journey to reach the semi-finals, and their 1-0 first-leg lead over Villa gives them a real platform heading into the second leg. Chris Wood's penalty was the difference on the night, and Forest's defensive discipline throughout the competition has been exceptional. Whether they can go all the way to the final in Istanbul without Hudson-Odoi is the question their manager will now have to answer. The remaining Premier League fixtures also matter — Forest are battling to secure a strong league finish alongside their European adventure.
