United make Højlund available for transfer at £30m valuation

UTD READY TO CASH IN: HOJLUND AVAILABLE FOR £30M AFTER JUST ONE SEASON

Rasmus Højlund has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester United after scoring twice in a midweek friendly against Bournemouth in Chicago. The Danish striker addressed reporters directly after the match, stating his intention to remain at Old Trafford, despite the club’s continued interest in RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško.

However, behind the scenes, Højlund’s future remains uncertain.

United are actively monitoring Šeško, with reports suggesting the Slovenian striker is open to a move to Manchester. Newcastle are also interested but have yet to reach an agreement with Leipzig, giving United time to weigh up their next move. Internal discussions suggest that, while United could finance a Šeško deal without immediate sales, the club would still need to make room in the squad — and on the wage bill — to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability framework.

If Šeško were to arrive this summer, Højlund would almost certainly see his role reduced. The 22-year-old, who was signed for a fee rising to over £70 million just a year ago.

United are understood to be willing to listen to offers for Højlund if the right bid comes in. The current valuation is around £30 million, though that would represent a significant financial loss. Højlund still holds a ‘book value’ of £43 million, with three years left on the five-year contract he signed in 2023. Any sale below that figure would require United to absorb a loss on their balance sheet — something they are keen to avoid unless absolutely necessary.

The striker situation is part of a wider summer overhaul at United, who have already spent nearly £130 million on new signings, including winger Bryan Mbeumo and forward Matheus Cunha. Both players are expected to play key attacking roles next season, which could further complicate Højlund’s minutes.

For now, the Denmark international remains committed and focused, but with the window still open and Šeško talks progressing in the background, the situation is fluid. United’s next move could determine whether Højlund remains a central figure or becomes a casualty of a new-look front line.
