Ipswich Town sign Chuba Akpom on loan from Ajax Amsterdam

AKPOM'S ENGLISH RETURN: STRIKER HEADS TO IPSWICH AFTER AJAX STRUGGLES

Ipswich Town have bolstered their forward line with the signing of 29-year-old striker, who began his professional career at Arsenal before forging a successful spell at Middlesbrough, where he scored 33 goals in 77 league games after a stint with Greek side PAOK Salonika.

The forward moved to Ajax in the summer of 2023 but spent part of last season on loan at Lille, finding the net three times in 15 appearances for the French club and featuring in the Champions League.

Speaking to Ipswich’s official website, he said the move felt like a natural fit:

“I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense. I’m here to help the team in every way I can — both on the pitch and in the dressing room — and I’ll bring a winning mentality.”

The Tractor Boys opened their Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw away to newly-promoted Birmingham City. They now host Bromley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday before turning their focus to Sunday’s home clash with Southampton, who were relegated alongside Ipswich from the Premier League in May.
