Viking were 2-0 up and dreaming. Then they were 3-2 down and, for most of the last quarter of an hour, facing a loss against Bayern Munich. A back-post header in the 90th minute from Herman Haugen sent the Lyse Arena wild and left both sides with a point, and left Bayern with a suspension to think about.

Two quick goals for the hosts

It started at a ridiculous pace. Viking scored in the second minute, Stensness finishing after a pass from Tripic, and the home crowd barely had time to find their seats. Bayern, with Harry Kane up front, were chasing the game from the start, and for the rest of the half they never really got hold of it.

On 38 minutes it was two. Botheim supplied the ball and Christiansen scored, and the scoreline at the interval, 2-0 to Viking, looked like a very large result for a club of their size.

Kane drags Bayern back

Bayern were different after the break. Kane scored from the penalty spot in the 54th minute and, six minutes later, struck again after a pass from Joshua Kimmich. Suddenly the home side were hanging on to a draw rather than playing to extend a lead.

The turnaround was completed in the 71st minute. Luis Diaz scored, with Konrad Laimer the creator, and Bayern led 3-2 for the first time. From 2-0 down to 3-2 up inside 17 minutes is the kind of spell that makes a team look inevitable.

Olise sent off, Haugen equalises

The moment that changed the shape of the end of the game came two minutes after Diaz. Michael Olise was shown a yellow card and then, only 30 seconds later, a second, and he was sent off in the 73rd minute. Bayern had to hold a one-goal lead with ten men for the last 17 minutes plus stoppage time.

They could not do it. Tripic set it up in the 90th minute and Haugen got up at the back post to head the equaliser. It was a fair reward for a side that had started so brightly, and the BBC's live commentary summed up the swing: from 2-0 up, to 3-2 down, to 3-3.

The Olise suspension carries a price. He will miss Bayern's next match, against Arsenal.
