Winning the Ballon d'Or is expensive, apparently. Harry Kane has barely put the trophy down and the dressing rooms at Bayern Munich and England are already asking what is in it for them. The 33-year-old has told German outlet BILD that some of the lads have requested watches, and he plans to come up with something nice for both squads.

A year that is hard to argue with

Kane collected his first Ballon d'Or on Monday night in his home city of London, ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal. Goal.com puts his 2026 at 73 goals for club and country, made up of 61 in 51 appearances for Bayern and 12 for England. He gave what was described as a gracious acceptance speech, then celebrated at a Soho nightclub.

He wore an ultra-rare Rolex Daytona on the night, valued at close to £1 million, so the teammates' request for watches was never going to be a coincidence. Kane says he will look into it and make sure everyone gets a nice gift, at Bayern and with England alike.

Sir Harry?

The award makes Kane England's sixth Ballon d'Or winner, in a list that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen. It has also set talk running in Downing Street about a knighthood to go with the MBE he received in 2019.

Asked about it by BILD, Kane did not play coy. He said he would certainly not say no, and that it would be incredible and something he would be proud of. He also said he does not want to get carried away, and that being called Sir would feel strange for now, so everyone should just keep calling him Harry.

Wembley is next

The trophy is due to get its own lap of honour on 12 November, when England host Croatia in the Nations League at Wembley. Kane is expected to carry it around the ground before kick-off, which is a nice way to turn a personal prize into a home occasion.

There is more waiting for him on the pitch. He is currently level with Peter Shilton on 125 caps, so playing against Croatia would make him England's most-capped player of all time, on top of already being the country's record goalscorer. For a man who has spent so many years chasing medals, that is a fairly good problem to have.

Player context: Harry Kane, 33, Bayern Munich and England captain. Ballon d'Or winner on Monday 26 October 2026. 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern and 12 for England in 2026. Next England match: Croatia at Wembley, Nations League, 12 November. He is level with Peter Shilton on 125 caps.
