Friday's papers lead with a striker who is no longer going anywhere and a midfielder who already decided. Harry Kane, 33, has agreed a new deal in principle with Bayern Munich, and the paperwork on an extension to the summer of 2029 is being finalised, according to Sky Sports. For a player who spent a decade being linked with a move every single window, the quiet renewal is almost funny.
Contracts signed and nearly signed
Arda Guler has agreed fresh terms at Real Madrid, Teamtalk report, which closes off the summer interest from Arsenal and Manchester City. The Turkey midfielder is 21 and has arguably the clearest path to a long Madrid career of anyone in that squad.
At Newcastle, Jacob Murphy's deal runs out next summer and the 31-year-old winger is close to agreeing a one-year extension, according to the Mail. Leeds have the opposite situation on their hands: Lukas Nmecha, 27, is out of contract in the summer and has not signed anything, with Teamtalk saying the German striker wants more minutes before he commits.
Scouting trips and release clauses
Tuttomercatoweb report that Premier League clubs are tracking Issa Doumbia, the 22-year-old Italy midfielder who joined Sporting from Venezia in the summer for 26m euros. His release clause is 80m euros, which is the sort of number that tends to settle a negotiation before it starts.
Closer to home, Football Insider say a number of Premier League scouts were at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday watching Jacob Hodl. The 19-year-old Austria midfielder played for Sturm Graz in their 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth and had the best chance the visitors created, a second-half effort that Djordje Petrovic pushed away.
A familiar name circling the Championship
Talksport report that Phil Parkinson is under growing pressure at Wrexham and that Steven Gerrard would be open to the job should it become available. Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq and has been linked with plenty since; Wrexham, with their ownership and their profile, is not a conventional Championship appointment.
Gossip sources: Harry Kane to 2029 (Sky Sports); Arda Guler new Real Madrid deal (Teamtalk); Jacob Murphy extension (Mail); Issa Doumbia release clause (Tuttomercatoweb); Jacob Hodl scouted (Football Insider); Lukas Nmecha contract (Teamtalk); Steven Gerrard open to Wrexham (Talksport). Round-up published 16 October 2026. None of these moves is confirmed.
