Real Madrid needed a straightforward evening and Kylian Mbappe gave them one. Two goals, one assist, and a 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano at the Bernabeu on Saturday that put the brakes on a wobbly week in LaLiga.
Fourteen Minutes, Then Three Minutes
The opening goal came from the spot on 14 minutes after Alvaro Carreras was fouled, Mbappe doing what he has done all season. Three minutes later the roles reversed: a simple lay-off from the Frenchman and Carreras finished for 2-0. Two goals inside a quarter of an hour effectively decided the game before Rayo had worked out how they wanted to defend.
Bellingham Adds the Third
Jude Bellingham made it 3-0 before the interval, arriving in the box with the timing that has become his signature. Sergio Camello pulled one back for Rayo six minutes after the break, but any thought of a comeback lasted only as long as it took Arda Guler to break at speed and square for Mbappe, who finished low into the bottom-left corner with his right foot.

The fourth goal is the one worth rewatching. Guler carried the counter from deep, picked the pass rather than the shot, and Madrid's front line finished a move that took under ten seconds from their own half. When Madrid play at that tempo the result stops being a question.
Rayo will feel the scoreline is harsh on a side that competed for stretches, but they were punished every time they lost the ball in their own half.
