Cody Gakpo has told Liverpool he wants to leave the club this summer and join Tottenham Hotspur, with the Dutch winger having already agreed personal terms on a move to north London.
According to multiple reports, Tottenham submitted an opening bid in excess of £60 million for the 25-year-old — a fee Liverpool are willing to consider, though the Anfield club are pushing for more before any deal is finalised. Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi has already held direct talks with the player, and Gakpo is ready to commit his future to the club.
The move signals a significant shift at Liverpool, who signed Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven back in January 2023. He settled in well, became a genuine contributor across multiple positions, and grew into one of the squad's more dependable attackers. But as tends to happen with ambitious players in their prime, a new challenge has called.
Liverpool are not hanging around waiting to see how things play out. The club has already opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of French winger Bradley Barcola, widely viewed as Gakpo's long-term replacement on Merseyside.
