Tottenham Hotspur have added significant defensive experience to their summer rebuild by completing the signings of both Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers. Robertson, 32, joins from Liverpool where his contract expired at the end of last season, while Argentine centre-back Senesi arrives from Bournemouth. Both deals were confirmed by Sky Sports' Transfer Centre on Tuesday.

Robertson: A Proven Premier League Left-Back

Robertson may be entering the final stretch of his career but at 32 he remains one of the best attacking left-backs in the league when fit. His arrival on a free is outstanding business from Spurs — he gives Ange Postecoglou's system the overlapping threat down the left that has been missing since the departures of Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon. He won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019 and brings a winning mentality to a dressing room that has struggled for consistency.

Senesi: Defensive Depth and Ball-Playing Quality

Senesi, 28, had two solid seasons at Bournemouth after signing from Feyenoord. He is a ball-playing centre-back with good positional awareness who can operate in a back three or a back four. At Spurs, where Postecoglou prefers high defensive lines and aggressive pressing, Senesi's ability to step out and intercept is valuable. He adds depth behind Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

The Bigger Picture

Spurs are also pursuing Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke to further strengthen at centre-back. With Robertson and Senesi in, Postecoglou now has genuine competition in the defensive third — something that was critically lacking last season when injuries derailed their top-four challenge.
