Pep Guardiola has announced he is leaving Manchester City after 10 years in charge — the end of the most successful managerial tenure in Premier League history. The Spaniard, who arrived from Bayern Munich in 2016, transformed not just City but English football itself, winning 20 trophies including six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League as part of an unprecedented treble.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Guardiola's City won six league titles in nine seasons, including four in a row between 2021 and 2024. They accumulated 100 points in a single season — twice. They set records for goals, wins, and points per game that may never be beaten. The 2023 treble of Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League was the pinnacle — the first English club to achieve all three in the same season since Manchester United in 1999.

His Greatest Achievement

There are arguments that Guardiola's greatest achievement was not any single trophy but the sustained level of performance over a decade. No team in English football history has maintained such consistent excellence for so long. He developed Kevin De Bruyne into arguably the greatest midfielder of his generation, oversaw Erling Haaland's record-breaking debut season, and built and rebuilt squads that kept winning even as rivals tried to crack the code.

What Comes Next

Guardiola has not announced what he plans to do next. A sabbatical is expected, with the possibility of taking a national team job — Germany or his native Spain are the most-discussed options — at some point in the future. For City, the task of finding a successor to the greatest manager in their ientory begins. It is an almost impossible brief.
