Liverpool have been in daily contact with the representatives of Yan Diomande as they push to secure the RB Leipzig forward in what would be one of the more ambitious transfer moves of this summer window. The 19-year-old Ivorian has had one of the standout debut Bundesliga campaigns in recent memory, and clubs across Europe have taken note. Liverpool believe they are at the front of the queue, though they face genuine competition — and the player himself is not rushing toward a decision.

Who Is Yan Diomande?

Until recently, Yan Diomande was not a name most football fans outside the Bundesliga would recognise. Born in Abidjan, he arrived at RB Leipzig from Leganés last summer. What followed was extraordinary. Thirteen goals and ten assists across 36 appearances. A hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in December. Bundesliga Rookie of the Season. Appearances for the Ivory Coast senior national team at just 19. By the time the season ended, he had gone from relative unknown to one of the most discussed young players in European football, with a potential World Cup call-up in his future.

Leipzig's Asking Price: £100 Million

RB Leipzig have made clear they are not looking to sell this summer. The club's preference is to keep Diomande for at least one more season in Germany. Their opening position is €100 million. Liverpool have not submitted a formal bid yet, but the daily contact with his representatives signals this is not casual interest. PSG have also entered the picture and been given the green light to open talks, meaning Liverpool cannot simply wait for the price to come down. The timeline is tightening.

A Long-Term Succession Plan

The logic from Liverpool's perspective is straightforward. Mohamed Salah turns 34 this summer and while he remains an elite performer, planning for the next phase of the attack is entirely sensible. Diomande plays on either flank, cuts inside onto his stronger foot, and has the pace to stretch any defence. His profile is not unlike the type of player Liverpool have always favoured in wide positions — technically sharp, quick in transition, capable of creating goals as well as scoring them. At £100 million for a teenager with one full Bundesliga season, it would be a significant commitment. But Liverpool have rarely been shy when the right player is available.
