Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has addressed the uncertainty around Vinicius Junior's future, saying he wants the Brazilian forward to remain at the club but will not force him to stay.
Vinicius has one year left on his current contract. With a new agreement still unsigned, Pérez's comments have added another layer to a story that is likely to follow Madrid through the summer.
Pérez says Madrid want Vinicius to stay
In an interview with El PaÃs, Pérez made his preference clear. He said he would like Vinicius to stay for the rest of his career and rejected claims that salary demands were blocking an extension.
But the Real Madrid president also acknowledged the player's freedom to decide. If Vinicius wants to leave and sign elsewhere, Pérez said he would not force him to remain.
Contract question will remain in focus
Vinicius has been a central figure in Madrid's recent success, including two Champions League-winning campaigns. That makes his unresolved contract more than a routine negotiation.
The public message from Pérez is measured: Madrid value the forward and want an agreement, but the decision cannot be made by the club alone. Until a new contract is signed, the uncertainty will continue to attract attention.
