A New Chapter in the Sunshine State

If Casemiro's four years at Manchester United ended with more questions than answers about whether the move ever quite worked as advertised, his next chapter promises to be altogether more straightforward. Inter Miami are leading the race for the Brazilian's signature following the expiry of his Old Trafford contract this summer, and according to Goal.com, talks between the MLS side and the midfielder's representatives are at an advanced stage. The appeal, reportedly, is mutual — and Casemiro is said to be willing to take a pay cut to make the move happen.

The lure of Miami has at least one very obvious component: Lionel Messi. The opportunity to line up alongside arguably the greatest player of all time — and one of Casemiro's former rivals from his years at Real Madrid — is understood to be a significant part of the appeal. He is not alone in that regard. Inter Miami have built a considerable profile in recent years on the back of Messi's presence, and the club are emerging as a genuine destination for high-profile players entering the latter stages of their careers.

The MLS Salary Challenge

Any deal will not be simple to structure. Inter Miami currently have three designated players on their roster, meaning a fourth high-salary addition is complicated by MLS's financial rules. The specifics of how the club would manage Casemiro's registration under the league's wage structure have yet to be confirmed publicly. LA Galaxy are also understood to be monitoring the situation, adding a degree of competition to what Miami might assume is an easy deal to complete.

Casemiro's United career produced flashes of the excellence that made him one of the best defensive midfielders in the world during his Real Madrid years. But injuries, age, and a decline in the physical intensity that defined his peak have left him a more peripheral figure in Michael Carrick's plans this season. His replacement at Old Trafford is already one of the priorities of United's summer rebuild.

What This Means for United

With Casemiro leaving and Manchester United now confirmed as Champions League participants next season, the club are expected to spend significantly in midfield this summer. Tyler Adams, Alex Scott, and Mateus Fernandes have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford, and Carrick has been clear that two elite central midfielders are the priority in the upcoming window. The Brazilian's exit, whenever it is formalised, will mark the end of a significant if ultimately disappointing chapter in the club's recent history.
