Bayern Make Their Move

Bayern Munich's summer transfer window just became considerably more active. According to Goal.com, the Bundesliga champions have presented Anthony Gordon with a concrete transfer offer — a five-year deal that would bring the Newcastle United and England winger to the Allianz Arena ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. It is a bold move from a club still in the middle of a Champions League semi-final, and it signals clearly the ambition of Vincent Kompany's side to add genuine Premier League-proven quality to their attacking ranks this summer.

Gordon has been one of the more consistent wide players in England over the past two seasons. Since arriving at Newcastle from Everton, his development has been remarkable — combining pace and directness with an increasingly reliable end product that has made him a regular fixture in the England squad. Bayern, who are actively looking to add competition and depth on the wings following their Champions League campaign, see him as the ideal profile for their system.

Newcastle's Price and Barcelona's Exit

The transfer will not be straightforward. Newcastle United have set an asking price of around £75 million for the 24-year-old, and they are under no particular pressure to sell — Gordon's contract at St James' Park runs until 2030, giving the club full control of the situation. Sky Sports report that Newcastle are prepared to open formal talks with Bayern only if the German side are willing to meet that valuation, and there is little indication they will accept anything significantly below it.

Barcelona, who had been monitoring Gordon for much of the season, have effectively withdrawn from the race. Their ongoing financial constraints make a £75 million outlay unrealistic in the current climate, and Bayern's proactive approach with a direct offer has moved the Spanish club to one side. The race, for now, is a bilateral one between Newcastle and Germany's champions.

Gordon's Openness to the Move

Reports suggest Gordon himself is open to the switch, having been informed of the proposed salary and contract duration. A move to Bayern would represent a significant step up in profile — European football, a club competing for the Bundesliga and Champions League every season, and the kind of platform that only a handful of clubs in the world can offer. Whether Newcastle's valuation ultimately proves an obstacle will depend on how aggressively Bayern push this particular deal in the coming weeks.
