Salah Leaves Liverpool for Free — And Five Saudi Clubs Are Already Scrapping for His Signature

The end of Mohamed Salah's Liverpool story has been confirmed. After nine years, six trophies, and enough goals to fill a highlight reel that never gets old, the Egyptian king is leaving Anfield as a free agent this summer. An agreement was reached to cut short his contract by a season, and the Saudi Pro League race to land him has already begun.

Five clubs want him. This is going to get complicated.

Al-Nassr Lead the Headlines — But It's Not That Simple

The name grabbing the most attention is Al-Nassr, and for obvious reasons. Salah joining Cristiano Ronaldo at the same club would be one of the more surreal transfer stories of the modern era. Two men who spent years being compared, argued over, and pitted against each other in endless GOAT debates — now potentially teammates in Riyadh.

Al-Nassr are firmly in the race. But here is the thing: there is real doubt about whether Ronaldo actually wants it to happen. Sharing a club with a player of Salah's global standing means sharing the spotlight, the shirt sales, the press conferences, and the narrative. Whether that suits the man who has spent his entire career being the undisputed centre of attention is genuinely uncertain.

The Rest of the Field

Al-Nassr's interest does not mean they will win the race. Long-time admirers Al-Ittihad have never really stopped pursuing Salah — they had a world-record approach rejected by Liverpool a couple of seasons ago, and they have not forgotten. Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli are also monitoring the situation closely. Then there is the surprise name: Al-Qadsiah, a club with serious ambition and the financial backing to make a genuine offer.

Five clubs, one available player. Salah's agent has been honest about the fact that even he does not know where his client will end up this summer. That is either a sign that nothing is close yet, or that the negotiations are going to be conducted in a very particular way.

Is America in the Picture?

MLS has also been floated as an option. Several clubs in Major League Soccer would love to sign a player of Salah's profile, and the lifestyle appeal of cities like New York, Miami, or Los Angeles is real for players at that stage of their career. Whether Salah's ambitions extend to still competing at the highest level — which Saudi Arabia arguably offers more of right now — or whether he wants a different experience is the key question.

His agent has not ruled it out.

What Liverpool Lose

Whatever happens next, it is worth pausing on what Liverpool are losing. Salah has been one of the most consistent goalscorers in Premier League history. His output has never really fallen off. Even in his final season at Anfield, the questions about whether he would stay or go never dented his performances.

He leaves as a free agent because Liverpool made the call not to extend further on their terms. Whether that was the right football decision will be debated for years. What nobody debates is the scale of what he contributed to the club and the league.

Wherever he ends up, the Mohamed Salah transfer saga is just getting started. Five clubs. One player. A lot of money. Watch this one closely.
