SOUTHAMPTON SIGN BRENTFORD'S MADS ROERSLEV ON FOUR-YEAR DEAL
Southampton have strengthened their squad with the arrival of Mads Roerslev, who joins from Brentford after six years at the London club.
The 26-year-old defender, capable of operating both as a traditional right-back and an advanced wing-back, made over 140 appearances for the Bees but had not featured this season. He also spent part of the last campaign on loan at Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, gaining further top-level experience.
Roerslev began his career at FC Copenhagen, where he broke into the first team as a teenager before moving abroad. His development in English football saw him play a role in Brentford’s promotion push and subsequent establishment in the Premier League.
Speaking about the move, Roerslev said joining the Saints felt like the right step:
“Southampton are a team that wants to play positive football, control matches, and work hard as a unit. That’s exactly the type of environment I want to be part of, so the decision was easy for me.”
Southampton, aiming to return to the Premier League after last season’s relegation, have made a steady start to life back in the Championship with four points from their first two games. The club believe Roerslev’s blend of energy and experience will be a valuable asset.
Johannes Spors, Southampton’s group technical director, welcomed the signing, saying:
“Mads has experience at different levels, from the Championship to the Premier League and even abroad. He understands what it takes to earn promotion, and at 26, he’s at a great stage of his career to make a big impact here.”
The Danish defender will now compete for a spot in Russell Martin’s lineup, bringing depth, versatility, and know-how to a Southampton side determined to challenge for promotion.
