Forest sign Juventus's Luiz on season-long loan

NOTTINGHAM FOREST SIGN DOUGLAS LUIZ ON LOAN FROM JUVENTUS

Nottingham Forest have pulled off a major transfer coup by bringing in Douglas Luiz from Juventus on a season-long loan, with an agreement in place that could see the move made permanent at the end of the campaign.

The Brazilian midfielder, 27, arrives at the City Ground less than a year after swapping Aston Villa for the Italian giants. Despite flashes of quality in Turin, Luiz found consistent game time difficult to come by and has opted for a Premier League return to reignite his career.

Forest see Luiz as a transformative signing. His blend of defensive resilience and composure in possession made him one of Villa’s most reliable performers during his four years in Birmingham, where he played more than 200 matches and became a fan favourite. He also boasts experience at the highest level, with appearances in European competition and more than 20 caps for Brazil.

Head coach Nuno Espírito Santo expressed his excitement over the deal, stressing that Luiz’s arrival adds a new dimension to the squad:

“Douglas is the type of player who can lift the level of the whole team. His awareness, his ability to dictate tempo, and his leadership qualities will be crucial for us this season. We’re very happy to welcome him to Forest.”

The deal is structured as a loan for the 2025/26 season, but clauses in the agreement mean Forest will be obliged to purchase Luiz permanently if certain conditions are met, with the fee expected to be sizeable.

For Forest supporters, this signing represents more than just squad depth — it’s a statement of intent. Luiz is expected to slot directly into midfield alongside the likes of Danilo and Morgan Gibbs-White, providing balance between energy, creativity, and control.

For Luiz himself, the move is an opportunity to recapture the influence he once enjoyed in England. After a season of frustration in Italy, he now steps into a side eager to climb higher up the Premier League table and establish itself as more than just a relegation battler.
