BURNLEY LAND DUBRAVKA! CLARETS SIGN NEWCASTLE KEEPER ON 1-YEAR DEAL
Burnley have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of seasoned Slovak international Martin Dúbravka from Newcastle United. The 36-year-old has committed to a one-year deal with the Clarets, joining for an undisclosed fee.
Dúbravka departs St James’ Park after nearly eight years of service, having originally arrived on loan in 2018. During his time on Tyneside, he established himself as a reliable presence between the sticks, racking up 179 appearances and 51 clean sheets across competitions. His standout contributions include a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup-winning campaign, notably shutting out Arsenal in both legs of the semi-finals.
Burnley turned to the veteran keeper following James Trafford’s return to Manchester City in what the club described as a record-breaking transfer for a British goalkeeper. Dúbravka, with his experience and composure, is seen as an ideal figure to help guide Burnley through their Premier League return.
"I'm genuinely thrilled to be here," Dúbravka said. "Everything I’ve heard about the club—the ambition, the dressing room, the culture—feels like the right fit at this stage of my career."
Burnley stormed to promotion from the Championship last season, collecting 100 points and maintaining a stunning 33-match unbeaten run. Despite finishing level on points with Leeds United, they narrowly missed out on the title due to goal difference.
With Premier League challenges ahead, Dúbravka is eager to get started. “Burnley showed incredible resilience and defensive strength last season. I’m here to add my voice, my leadership, and help this group take the next step.
