Tottenham have been linked with Antonio Rudiger. Rudiger, according to Bild, is not interested, and is focused on life at the Bernabeu. That is the shape of most January stories involving a 33-year-old centre-half with a Champions League medal collection: somebody in England fancies the idea, and the player quite likes where he is. It leads a Saturday gossip round-up that has rather more going on at the other end of the age range.
Villa are having second thoughts about Garnacho
Aston Villa will consider walking away from their deal to sign Alejandro Garnacho permanently if the 22-year-old Argentina winger's form does not pick up, according to Football Insider. He is at Villa Park on loan from Chelsea. That is already his third club in the space of a few seasons, which is the sort of detail that tends to make buying clubs read the small print twice.
Jadon Sancho, now a free agent, wants to meet Getafe's manager before deciding whether to join the Spanish club until the end of the season, the Telegraph reports. Brighton, meanwhile, have no intention of letting Diego Gomez go in January. The 23-year-old Paraguay midfielder has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, and Teamtalk says the answer is no.
Liverpool like what they are seeing from Araujo
Marca reports that Liverpool are prepared to trigger the 55m euro (£46m) option to buy Ronald Araujo outright if the Uruguay defender, on loan from Barcelona, keeps playing the way he has been. He is 27. Centre-halves of that profile do not usually come onto the market twice.
Still at the Bernabeu, Endrick's situation is less settled. The 20-year-old Brazilian could go out on loan in January with AC Milan and Roma interested, Marca says, despite Jose Mourinho recently ruling it out. Elsewhere in Spain, Dani Olmo has no plans to leave Barcelona, Sky Sports Germany reports, whatever Bayern Munich may think. The same outlet says Atletico Madrid are open to activating the 25m euro (£21m) option on Jonathan David's loan from Juventus, though nothing has been decided.
The Old Trafford mood music
The most uncomfortable line of the day concerns Manchester United. The Telegraph reports that managerial candidates in the frame to replace Michael Carrick believe the dressing room is "out of control" and that the players "talk too much". That is a remarkable thing for prospective employees to be saying before anyone has been offered the job, and it says more about the state of the club than any transfer rumour attached to it.
Taken together, the morning's papers read like a January window being negotiated in October. Loan options, buy clauses, free agents weighing offers they would not have looked at 18 months ago. Not much of it will survive contact with the actual window, which is how this always works.
Gossip sources: Football Insider (Garnacho), Telegraph (Sancho, Manchester United), Teamtalk (Gomez), Bild (Rudiger), Marca (Araujo, Endrick), Sky Sports Germany (Olmo, David). Round-up compiled from BBC Sport's Saturday gossip column, 24 October 2026. All items are press speculation and none has been confirmed by the clubs involved.
