Christian Pulisic skipped the international break to keep working at Milanello. Milan noticed. The club now appear to have decided that is exactly the sort of player they want tied down for another five years, and they are not waiting for the contract to run down to say so.

The deal being prepared

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Milan are putting together a contract running to 2031. The American's current terms at San Siro expire in June 2027 with an option for a further year, so there is no emergency here, but the club would rather not let the situation drift into the window where other teams start asking questions.

Owner Gerry Cardinale is said to be driving it personally. That is not purely a football decision. Pulisic is the most marketable face Milan have in North America, which is the market RedBird has spent years trying to open up.

Why the last round of talks stalled

These two sides have been here before. Negotiations broke down about a year ago around the €5 million net-per-season mark, and the expectation now is that his representatives will come back asking for more. Milan knew that was coming when they decided to restart the conversation.

Form after a bad summer

Pulisic picked up a serious injury at the World Cup and the recovery has shaped his autumn. He opted out of United States duty this week to stay on a tailored programme at the training ground rather than fly across the Atlantic and back. It seems to be working. A goal and an assist in his last two league appearances is the kind of return that makes a contract department move faster.

He is not the only one

Gazzetta also say Strahinja Pavlovic is in line for a deal to 2031, with the centre-back's wages roughly doubling to around €3.5 million a season. An improved package is being drawn up for Adrien Rabiot as well, bringing the midfielder closer to what the club believe he is worth.

Taken together it reads as a decision to keep the spine of the side rather than trade it. Hold, not rebuild. Whether Pulisic signs will depend on the next few months, because Milan's enthusiasm and his wage demand are both going to move with his form once Serie A restarts.

Contract context: Christian Pulisic's AC Milan contract runs until June 2027 with an option for an additional year. La Gazzetta dello Sport report the club are preparing an extension until 2031, driven by owner Gerry Cardinale of RedBird Capital. Previous talks stalled around €5m net per season. Pulisic withdrew from United States duty during the current international break to continue his recovery from a World Cup injury at Milanello, and has a goal and an assist in his last two Serie A appearances under Ruben Amorim. Milan are also pursuing a 2031 extension for Strahinja Pavlovic on around €3.5m per season and an improved deal for Adrien Rabiot.
