Nineteen minutes was all Barcelona needed at the Stadio Tre Fontane. Caroline Graham Hansen turned in a Patri Guijarro pass, and from that point the Women's Champions League tie stopped being a contest. Roma finished the night beaten 6-0, having gone the full ninety minutes without forcing a single save worth the name from the visiting goalkeeper.

Two before the break, four after it

Graham Hansen's opener came from a move Barcelona have run a hundred times, Guijarro finding the run on the angle and the Norwegian doing the rest. The second arrived on 39 minutes and Roma could only blame themselves for it: a cross aimed into the six-yard box came off Oladipo and went in. Half-time read 0-2, which already flattered the hosts given what the possession numbers were doing.

Whatever Roma were told in the dressing room lasted eight minutes. Clàudia Pina scored on 53 after Ewa Pajor released her, and Graham Hansen had her second on the hour, this time set up by Clara Serrajordi. Serrajordi then created Pina's second on 75. Pajor, who had already laid one on, took the sixth for herself five minutes from time after van Asten picked her out.

The numbers were brutal

Barcelona held 74.8 per cent of the ball and had 20 shots to Roma's four. More damning for the hosts, they did not put one of those four on target. Barcelona hit the target 11 times. The touch count inside the opposition box finished 46 to 12, and Roma's goalkeeper made five saves, which sounds busy until you remember that the six that went past her were mostly unstoppable by the time they arrived.

Roma were not passive so much as overrun. They pressed in short bursts, got nowhere, and then spent long stretches chasing a Barcelona side that has made a habit of turning the second half of European away games into an exhibition. By the closing quarter the home crowd had thinned out considerably.

What it means from here

Barcelona have now taken care of their second match of the league phase in the manner that everyone expected, and the goal difference they are quietly building could matter a great deal when the seeding for the knockout rounds is worked out in the winter. Graham Hansen, for all the talk about how Barcelona's forward line has changed in recent seasons, remains the player opponents cannot plan for.

Roma's problem is more immediate. They have to regroup quickly, and the gap between the Italian side and the European elite looked wider on Wednesday night than it has for some time. There is no shame in losing to this Barcelona. There is a question, though, about how a team can play at home in the Champions League and not test the goalkeeper once.
