SOUTHAMPTON SIGN NORWICH GOALKEEPER GEORGE LONG ON SEASON-LOAN
Southampton have strengthened their squad with the arrival of goalkeeper George Long, who joins on a season-long loan from Championship rivals Norwich City.
The 31-year-old brings plenty of experience, having represented the Canaries over the past two seasons in which he made 24 appearances. Before his time at Carrow Road, Long enjoyed spells with several clubs including Sheffield United, Oxford United, Motherwell, AFC Wimbledon, Hull City and Millwall, building a solid reputation across English football.
Speaking about his move to St Mary’s, Long expressed his excitement:
"I’m really pleased to be here. Southampton is a massive club with big ambitions, and from everything I’ve seen already it’s clear they’re working hard to get back to the Premier League. The facilities, the structure, and the fanbase make this an ideal place for me to contribute."
Relegated last season, the Saints have had a mixed start to life back in the Championship with one win from their opening three matches. They will face Norwich in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday — a fixture that now carries extra significance for Long.
Johannes Spors, Southampton’s technical director, praised the new signing for the experience and professionalism he adds:
"George is a proven goalkeeper who will bring leadership and high standards to the squad. His qualities, both on and off the pitch, will be very important over the course of the season."
Long’s arrival gives Southampton another reliable option in goal as they push to challenge for promotion.
