Watford sign defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy as a free agent

NAMPALYS MENDY JOINS WATFORD ON FREE TRANSFER AFTER LENS RELEASE

Watford have bolstered their midfield with the signing of 33-year-old Nampalys Mendy, who returns to English football after a six-year spell at Leicester City.

Mendy moved to the Foxes from Nice in 2016 and went on to make 118 appearances, 98 of them in the Premier League. He was also part of the squad that lifted the FA Cup in 2021, though he remained on the bench in the final victory over Chelsea.

The Senegal international becomes the Hornets’ 11th addition of the summer window, with his contract including an option to extend for a further season.

Sporting director Gianluca Nani welcomed the arrival, highlighting Mendy’s qualities: “He knows English football very well and was once brought in to replace N’Golo Kanté at Leicester. He’s outstanding at regaining possession, has excellent tactical awareness, and leads by example on the pitch.”
