Coventry City have smashed their club transfer record to land Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish side Nordsjaelland, completing a deal understood to be worth 27 million euros (approximately £23.1 million) plus a further 3 million euros (£2.5 million) in add-ons. The 20-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Sky Blues, becoming their fifth summer signing as they prepare for life back in the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

It is a signing that reflects both the ambition of the moment at Coventry and the growing reputation Yirenkyi has built in a remarkably short time. He joined Nordsjaelland just last year and immediately made an impression, winning the Danish Superliga's young player of the year award in his debut season. But it was the 2026 World Cup that truly threw Yirenkyi onto the global stage. Playing for Ghana's Black Stars — a squad that surprised many in the tournament — he scored a crucial stoppage-time winner against Panama in the group stage, a moment that captured the attention of clubs across Europe. His debut for Ghana only came in May 2025, making his World Cup contribution all the more impressive.

The midfielder is versatile enough to operate as a number eight or shift into a defensive role, having played at right-back for both club and country last spring. That kind of flexibility is worth its weight for a newly promoted side that will face the physical and tactical demands of the Premier League for the first time in a generation.
