Bournemouth have been quietly getting on with things this season, and for much of the campaign they have done it without one of their most influential attacking players. Justin Kluivert's absence through injury has been a real blow, particularly given how important the Dutch winger was to Andoni Iraola's system in the first half of the season. The news that he could return before the final whistle blows on 2025-26 has therefore been met with genuine excitement around the Vitality Stadium.

Kluivert brought something to Bournemouth's attack that is genuinely difficult to replicate. His directness, his ability to receive the ball in tight spaces and immediately create a problem for defenders, and his quality from set pieces made him one of the standout performers at the club during his fit periods. Iraola has found workarounds, as good managers always do, but the squad will feel his return acutely when it comes.

What His Return Would Mean

For a Crystal Palace side arriving at the Vitality, the prospect of facing a freshened-up Bournemouth attack with Kluivert back in the mix will not be welcome news. Palace have had their own season to navigate — an evolving squad under their manager, with some genuinely talented individuals but also real inconsistency. A Bournemouth team that has its full complement of attacking options is a difficult proposition for anyone in the bottom half of the Premier League.

What Kluivert gives Iraola above all else is options. His versatility means he can play on either flank, or centrally in a tight attacking midfield role if required. The depth of Bournemouth's squad has always been one of their underrated strengths, and adding Kluivert back into the picture could give the manager the kind of rotation and selection headaches that most coaches dream of heading into the final stretch of a campaign.

Iraola's Side in Form

Bournemouth have been one of the more pleasant surprises of the Premier League era in recent seasons. Under Iraola, they play with a genuine intensity that belies their status as a newly established top-flight club. The pressing is relentless, the attacking intent is real, and the players buy into the system with a dedication that shows in their performances. Against Crystal Palace, expect Bournemouth to be on the front foot from the first whistle, especially with the crowd behind them at the Vitality.

Crystal Palace will need to be organised and disciplined to get anything from this game. If they allow Bournemouth's forwards — with or without Kluivert — time on the ball in dangerous areas, they will be punished. Palace have shown they can defend resolutely when they need to, but their attacking threat will also need to be present if they are to avoid a difficult afternoon on the south coast.

A Watch-This-Space Situation

The Kluivert return remains one to monitor closely in the final weeks of the season. Iraola will not rush a player back before he is ready — the manager has been meticulous about managing his squad's fitness and welfare throughout the campaign — but the signs are encouraging. If Kluivert can get some minutes on the pitch and rediscover his sharpness before the season ends, Bournemouth will head into the summer with real optimism about what the combination of a full squad and another year of Premier League experience could produce.
