Arsenal are back on top of the Premier League after Eberechi Eze's ninth-minute goal earned them a tight 1-0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening. The result keeps the Gunners three points clear of Manchester City with just four games now remaining in what has become one of the closest title races in Premier League history.

How the Goal Happened

It took less than ten minutes for Arsenal to break the deadlock, and the move that produced it showed exactly why Mikel Arteta's side are in the position they are. Kai Havertz played a sharp pass into the path of Eze on the edge of the box, and the Arsenal midfielder — who joined from Crystal Palace last summer — did not hesitate. He took one touch to set himself and drilled a powerful effort beyond Nick Pope, giving the goalkeeper absolutely no chance. It was the kind of clinical finish that separates the contenders from the also-rans.

A Controlled Second Half

Once Arsenal had their lead, they were content to defend it with intelligence. Newcastle pushed hard for an equaliser, with Alexander Isak causing problems in behind, but Arsenal's backline — marshalled superbly by William Saliba — held firm. Martin Odegaard controlled the midfield tempo and made sure the game never got away from the hosts. In the end, the margin of victory could have been greater, with Gabriel Martinelli denied twice by Pope in a strong second-half showing from the home side.

Title Race Tightens Further

The win is perfectly timed for Arsenal, who face a brutal run-in. They travel to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday before returning to domestic action the following weekend. Manchester City, meanwhile, have their own challenges to navigate — but with both sides neck and neck on form, every single point counts. Arteta urged his players this week to take ownership of the situation, and on today's evidence, they are doing exactly that.

For Eze specifically, the goal is his eleventh in all competitions this season — a fine return for a player who cost Arsenal a reported £70m. He has adapted quickly to life in north London and looks increasingly like the creative spark Arteta's side needed to push over the line for the title.
